All of our candies are designed, created, and handmade by us in our Philadelphia studio.
Rebecca began painting as a child and later studied at Rhode Island School of Design. During visits to her father’s family, the smell of saffron mingled with lavish Persian rugs. Platters piled high with basmati rice rose like mountains alongside stews and fresh herbs. While making paintings in graduate school Rebecca began to wonder: What is the smell of an image? How does it taste? She wanted to create a multi-sensory experience where patterns and gestures could be eaten. Rebecca made her first series of candies for Automat Gallery for a vending machine in Art Basel’s Satellite show in 2015. There, the seed for Joonam was planted.
